FRANK BEY

Born in Millen, Georgia, the son of gospel singer Maggie Joran, Frank Bey is a perennial favorite at Exit Zero Jazz Festival. With his natural crowd-pleasing ability and rich, soulful voice, he has been winning over audiences in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area since re-emerging on the scene in 1996 after a prolonged absence. His triumphant return was heralded by his 1998 comeback album Steppin Out. He followed that up in 2008 with Blues in the Pocket. Bey’s latest release, 2014’s Soul For Your Blues, was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the Soul Blues Album of the Year category by the Blues Music Foundation in Memphis. That same prestigious organization nominated Bey for 2016 Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year.

With an earthy delivery and dynamic personality that lights up the stage, Frank Bey deals strictly in downhome blues and classic R&B in the tradition of Little Milton, Bobby Rush, Johnnie Taylor and Bobby “Blue” Bland. His repertoire, consisting of such familiar tunes as “Tore Down,” “Ain’t That Loving You,” The Blues Is All Right,” “Turn Back the Hands of Time,” “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay” and “A Change is Gonna Come,” is bound satisfy blues an R&B purists.
